The SSL certificate is used to inform the client/user that the website they are browsing is secure. For an ordinary customer this will be important because they don't have to worry about their private data, login, password, bank number will get into the wrong hands. It should be used where confidential data has to be provided. It is based on SSL protocol – data transmission between the server and the client's computer is encrypted for a given website.
In order to check whether a given website is protected by SSL certificate, check if there is a https, not http marking in the browser bar at the beginning. In addition, there is a locked padlock before the address starts.
In addition, for an EV certificate the address of the browser is on a green background or the beginning of the address is in green font. This already depends on the browser you use.
