The main difference between IPv4 and IPv6 addresses is their size. IPv4 address is built of 32 bits (bit is the smallest unit of information) and IPv6 is a 128 bits version. Capacity of IPv4 is approximately 4mld addresses what compared to 2128mld of version 6th make a huge difference. In the nearest future IPv6 will replace fourth version because of depletion of available IPv4 addresses. This will result in increased security, improved performance and new management model. Most devices and operating systems support both versions so transition between addresses won't be perceptible for the user.
