Internet Protocol called "IP" is an unique address that identifies a device on the Internet or a local network. It allows system to be recognized by other systems connected via the Internet Protocol.
The IP address can be divided into private address (available on the local network) and public (visible across the network).
IP address format:
The format of an IP address is a 32-bit numeric address consists of a four numbers (from 0 to 255) separated by the periods. For example 1.168.10.235.
There are two major types of IP address formats used today —IPv4 and IPv6.
Version fourth is most commonly used, however because of internet growth and depletion of available IPv4 addresses, a new new IP version (IPv6) was developed and standardized.
